Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Save $42.42 (21%)
We set aside the best barrels of our Cabernet to produce Special Selection - the only wine in the world honored twice as Wine Spectator magazine's "Wine of the Year." Pushing the limits of richness and concentration, this Cabernet is enjoyable upon release or improves with aging a decade or more. Fine, luxurious tannins give structure to intense flavors of supple cacao bean, chocolate and dark fruits.
Wine Spectator Pure and rich, well-centered on melted black licorice, spice, cedar and dark berry flavors. Deep and complex, if short on finesse and grace, ending with musclebound tannins. Drink now through 2028. 25,964 cases made.
Joseph Phelps Insignia 2012The 2012 Insignia has an inky dark hue and aromas of ripe blackberries, star anise, cigar box, clove and sweet mocha notes. Richly opulent with velvety texture and supple tannins, this full-bodied offering envelops the palate in luscious, lingering black plum and violets along with layers of baking spices.
Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon 2011Hillside Select is aged a full four years prior to release (three years in Alliers and Tronçais oak barrels and 15 months in the bottle). While enjoyable today, this wine will gain richness and maturity with up to 20 years of careful cellaring.
Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011With elegance and suppleness from the persistently cool 2011 growing season, our Cabernet Sauvignon captures the award-winning character of Hewitt Vineyard. The wine's dense core of blackberry, Satsuma plum, black Bing cherry and cassis reveals gorgeous notes of bittersweet chocolate, violet, sarsaparilla and forest earthiness. The firm entry turns plush on the expansive midpalate, while balanced acidity brightens the intense dark-fruit flavors. Warm caramel and mocha notes from new French oak barrels permeate the inviting aromas, richly textured flavors and lengthy finish. The long hangtime of 2011 slowly ripened and softened the grape tannins, making this wine marvelously approachable, yet cellar worthy.
Beaux Freres The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014Color - Medium to dark ruby, Body - medium to full. A darker, more brooding and fuller bodied wine, our original estate vineyard Pinot is approachable but ideally will benefit from several years of patience. Clearly one of our best vintages given the richness and purity of the spectrum of red, blue and black fruits on parade and virtually no oak showing despite being raised in about 50% of the finest French oak. Originally Mike farmed it conventionally but about 13 years ago started experimenting with nonconventional farming methods and now our entire property is being farmed using biodynamic principles. We are not certified either organic or biodynamic but we invite you to visit our farm (by appointment please) and see our farming practices firsthand.
