Intense, deep red colour with fine hints of purple. The nose offers pleasant aromas of red and dark fruit, with redcurrants, blaccurrant, with an after taste of mint and cedar. The bouquet fills out with notes of vanilla, spices and mocha, characteristic of French oak. This is a dense, complex wine, with good tannic structure, good length and full mid palate. The lingering finesse of the tannins gives the wine good length and a pleasant, soft mouth feel.

Wine EnthusiastCaro is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage is balanced from the beginning. Black fruit, oak, balsamic complexity and floral hints define the bouquet. The nose is backed by a firm palate with plump edges and dark, oaky flavors of blackberry, vanilla and spice. Some heat rises up on the finish; drink through 2018.

Wine AdvocateAlthough the 3,000 cases of the 2012 Caro were already bottled and most probably there will never be a 2011 Caro, they felt the 2012 was still too young, so we tasted the 2010 Caro, which has a strong animal character with plenty of aromas of leather, well-hung game, licorice, Chinese ink and tempera paint over a core of ripe black fruit. It seems like the animal notes are really taking over and the palate also feels the effects. The fruit is drying out and the bare tannins remain while the meat seems to be disappearing. This should be consumed sooner rather than later and I fear the existing sensation might just get increased with time in bottle. Drink now.
